Have you ever wondered if you'll ever be able to move forward after loss or if you'll ever experience the growth you hear others talk about? Waiting can feel unbearable. It’s that in-between space where you hold onto hope, yet wonder if things will ever be different. Progress feels slow, and just when you think you're beginning to see the light of day, you can find yourself slipping right back into the pit of despair.
We live in a world that expects instant results. If our Amazon package can’t arrive in two days, we’ll choose something else. If an app takes too long to load, we close it. Our culture has conditioned us to crave speed and efficiency, but spiritual growth doesn’t work that way. True transformation is slow, often unnoticed at first, and requires patience.
It’s easy to believe that healing and growth should be visible, that if we don’t see change, then nothing is happening. But the deepest transformation often happens long before we recognize it.
God created our brains with an incredible ability to change and adapt. This neuroplasticity means that healing is possible, that the wounds and fractures we carry don’t have to define us forever. But just like a seed planted in the earth, growth doesn’t happen overnight. It happens slowly, beneath the surface, in the unseen places of the soul.
Dormancy isn’t stagnation. It is preparation.
The enemy wants us to believe that the barrenness we feel now is all that will ever be. He whispers that nothing will change, that we are stuck, that this is our forever. But these are his age old lies.
A seed, once planted, seems to disappear. Buried beneath the soil, unseen and forgotten. But under the surface, something is happening—roots are forming, strength is building.
We often mistake waiting for abandonment, silence for absence. But just as winter precedes the bloom of spring, so too does the unseen work of God in our hearts. What if your waiting isn’t punishment but preparation? What if this season that feels barren is actually the place where God is tending to your deepest needs, forming something new within you?
Scripture Reminds Us to Trust the Process
- “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.” (Ecclesiastes 3:1)
- “I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in his word, I put my hope.” (Psalm 130:5)
- “Unless a seed falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.” (John 12:24)
Encouragement in the Waiting
God is doing His best work in the cold, hard ground of your heart. The waiting season isn’t wasted—it’s where deep, unseen transformation takes place. Your roots are growing deeper, your faith is being strengthened, and you will bloom in due season.
Don’t despise the period of waiting. Trust that what feels like barrenness is actually preparation. God sees what you cannot yet see. And in His perfect timing, what has been planted will break through.
Hold on—your spring is coming.
Have you ever been in a season where it felt like nothing was changing, only to later realize how much growth had been happening beneath the surface? How has God worked in your waiting?
